Hosted by Singapore's National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre, the event will run in conjunction with the tenth anniversary of the International Year of Volunteers (IYV+10) and IAVE's 40th anniversary. In the tradition of recent IAVE conferences, an affiliated Youth Volunteer Conference will be held on January 21-23 at the campus of the Singapore Management University.

The two-and-a-half day event will have a mixture of conference sessions, forums, and workshops emphasising the impactful volunteering and feeding into the five different streams:
The Power of One - initiatives by high profile volunteers that have a big impact on local communities.
Many Helping Hands - successful partnerships between volunteer agencies and governments, businesses and other not-for-profits to achieve their mission.

From Good to Great - A leadership focused showcasing of the successful world changing international recognised programmes within the non-for-profit settings

Volunteering Megatrends - identifying volunteer needs and supply trends in the current day and age. Trends of interest will be humanitarian relief, mega events, faith based volunteering, elderly volunteering and more.

Strategic Issues in Volunteer Management - going beyond the traditional discussions revolving around volunteer recruitment and retention and focusing on the strategies behind successful implementation.

If you would like to present at the Conference, please visit the Conference website for information on how to submit the synopses.

Volunteering NZ is the New Zealand Representative of the IAVE and one of our duties is to encourage both organisations and individuals within New Zealand to join IAVE. It works to promote, strengthen and celebrate the development of volunteering worldwide and it has become a global network of volunteers, volunteer organisations, national representatives and volunteer centres with members in over 70 countries and all world regions.

It has a useful e-newsletter which in its April 2010 edition run a separate feature on volunteering in NZ. IAVE is probably best know for its conferences which attract a global audience, distinguished speakers and skilled and experienced workshop presenters. The conferences in turn provide a means to meeting and establishing an ongoing connection with people from other parts of the world.

For he forthcoming 2011 Conference there is a special registration rate for IAVE members - $US400 for NGOs which are already members or a special early bird rate of $US500 which includes a complimentary IAVE 2 year membership. The standard registration fee for NGOs that are non-members is $US550.

There is more information about the conference later in this edition of Update and we will soon have more details accessible through our website. Those considering going to the conference would be foolish not to consider the option offering a complimentary IAVE membership if not already an IAVE member. For more information about IAVE and its membership visit IAVE website.
